This weekend 30 volunteers descended on the Pike Glades to prepare for what is hopefully a winter full of snow in the White Mountains. The Pike Glades, which are a feature of The Innstead Mountain Getaway’s 2,000 acre property, are a series of ski trails that were designed and implemented in partnership with The Granite Backcountry Alliance.

Every fall the GBA organizes a “glade day” in which volunteers come to clean up and prepare the ski trails for ski season. The goal of the GBA is to “advance the sport of backcountry skiing in NH and Western ME by providing a network of low-impact human-powered backcountry skiing opportunities to the public through the creation, improvement and maintenance of ski glades.”

In the afternoon, The Innstead hosted an apres party/cookout to thank the volunteers for their hard work in improving the trails and to to show off recent changes at The Innstead, which will be open for weekend bookings starting in October.

Volunteers and friends and family of The Innstead enjoyed a filling BBQ, local beer, fun raffle prizes and cozy conversation around The Innstead’s lovely campfire area. Once the snow hits, the Pike Glades will be open for skiing for both guests of The Innstead as well as the community at large.
